hi
my topic is really offtopic, do any one know the origin of the quote "ladies first".
i heard it comes from a real story of a cheating woman.
Ladies First
Re:Ladies First
Dunno, but I do know that that didn't count for stairs, what with the skirts ;D
Re:Ladies First
I think it's not so much a "quote" but rather a principle of manners. Some would say "Victorian" manners, but then I'm Victorian in that regard, too. Ladies first. Ladies get seats first on the bus. Ladies get to pick first from the buffet.
I think the most common context in which this phrase is heard by people today is in films like "Titanic" - ladies get evacuated first.
There is no "origin" to that phrase. I guess we protected our females long before there was any language to "quote" in.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
