Say something about the person above you ^^

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

if b equals 0 or 2147483648 it would equal 1 on a 32-bit system, if it's not one of those two numbers it would be 2*b.

(evaluating 2b||!2b of course. If you took that as 2b|~2b the answer would be 4294967295 in any case)

^ is shaking his head about the logic.

\/ thinks I'm an idiot (and is pretty correct at that).

The statement 2b|~2b is equivalent to ~0 which is the one's compliment of zero, hence not nothing, therefore everything!!1!11. However the definition of nothing in the above context (as the numerical representation of zero) is not equivalent to the absence of anything, simply the lack of somethingness. To fulfill both the potentials of everything and nothing you end up with everything again, so nothing is a subset of everything. (You can say that again.) If instead you logically AND the two instead of conjunctionally ANDing you get absolutely nothing, like that which this argument amounts to. :P

All of the above however is a misinterpretation, following is what was really meant by the inquisitor.
beyond infinity wrote:\/ gonna tell the difference between to be and not to be.
2b-(~2b) = 2b+(~(~2b)+1) = 2b+2b+1=4b+1
Four beez 'n one. ;D

< Has been up for almost two days for no reason at all. Not normally like this but gets depressed at the sheer monotony of the regular day's cycle repeatedly for weeks on end so sometimes it's nice to have relief with an occasional 36 or 48-hour day.

Thinks I'm totally f*cking nuts, and that I should go to bed immediately. Hope y'all had a good laugh, or something. G'nite.

< Severely overdid it. :-[

^ Put way too much thought into that and probably needs a lot of sleep

<'s only reaction was "wtf?"

v Has a more developed OS than me (for reference, after the last chuck-out-and-replan I have no actual code)

^ is wrong. ;D (I don't have code to show, either.)

@ Bob:

At a moment of leisure, perhaps after a couple of years have gone by, pick up some Shakespeare and read it just for fun, for the language. Having to analyse a book spoils everything.

< had once tried to read LotR expecting some great Conan-style action fantasy. The reading experience sucked. Ten years later, I picked up a copy of LotR in original language, and read it simply for enjoyment of Tolkien's skill at language. One of the best books I've ever read.

Just for info. The Diff between to be and not to be is simply existence. What is not, simply doesn't exist, eh? At least that is when I tell my brain: hey, do a diff between these two and chuck the output to /dev/fingers

@bob: oh, I've had to analyze Franz Kafka: Die Verwandlung. Dunno if that piece o' crap tells you something. Atrocious story, abysmal style. Shakespeare is honeylicking compared to that.

ah, gone ot.

re topic:

^is simply correct with LOTR & Tolkiens language skill.

< has a damaged moneybag. boing boing all the time losing some coins and having to run after them little rolling bastards - *grml* if they hide under a drawer ... *fuggitdammnidmunnyvanishingalldatime* ah and wonders why being outta money *chuckle*

\/ might consider me being nuts.

ah, it's not as if Solar hasn't a fine temper of his own, eh? There is what the very big Klugscheisser call Negative Projection, hehe. *fg*

^ is from styria if I remember correctly.

< has had a big fight with Apache/Axis stuff & Microfocus netexpress cobol webservices, which don't like multirefs in a soap message.

\/ might ask wtf is cobol

^, ^^, ^^^, ^^^^, ^^^^^ and ^^^^^^ (!) have Strg instead of Ctrl on their keyboard.

< has a strong dislike for localized keyboards (and even those that mix up but a single key, like nearly all new keybs mess up the insert/delete block).

^dislikes localized keyboards (maaaan, what for a statement *blah*) and is from Holland. *gg*

^^ will wonder what ppl come up with if they have enough time. should look at www.microfocus.com to get some enlightenment about the whereabouts of cobol. At job I have to work out stuff with NetExpress Enterprise Server & Cobol. Basically, it's as simple as making an average cobol module with a linkage section and then generating a web service interface around this linkage section et voila, here we go. The rest is stubs & skeletons for marshalling/demarshalling stuff on both the client and the server.

< is currently doing a little bit of osdeving.

\/ will not accept this prediction. *fg*
