What's Your Favourite Song?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

I know! The whole experience of seeing them together again left me dumbstruck and wanting more and more. Maybe they'll tour again? I don't know, they're getting on a bit in their years. But even still... Floyd're back ;D

As a filk fan, chances are you won't know these. On the upside, you can download some of them from the web somewhere, legally.

And I can sing them, too, in front of audience without having stones thrown at me. 8) "World Inside the Crystal" is actually a song about computers and the people who use them (us). Quite poetic!

Heather Alexander, "March of Cambreadth"
Mercedes Lackey / Leslie Fish, "Winds Four Quarters"
Kathy Mar, "World Inside the Crystal"
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

aaahhh music, what would life be without it?

My absolute favourite is Vangelis.
ONe of the songs I like most: I'll find my way home (friends of mr. cairo)

I also listen to Enya. You have to check out the album Watermark - and thereon the first piece (it's "the celts" I think). That's absolutely brain soothing.

In past times, when I used to write stories & full fledged books, I used to listen to music according to the mood I needed. Fury, quick pieces for heated, cruel action, slow, sad pieces for Drama, happy music for comedy sequences (I used to write in a comedy-drama style where even amidst the saddest moments, the light of Hope was present) Maybe I gonna write again. Just in this stage of my life I canna imagine writing all days - because of an operating system which needs my caring hands and the creative force inside my grey matter. For OS_Deving I barely need music. You canna concentrate on algorithms with distractions.

I found that music - instrumental, that is - actually keeps me focussed better. It generates a "flow" that drowns out minor distractions (like people shouting outside, weather, my wife on the phone with other people etc.). For this, I prefer classic (Vivaldi and Chopin), soundtracks (13th Warrior being a favourite), and most of all, C64 remixes (remix.kwed.org).
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

You definitely shouldn't have given me, the biggest c64 addict of the world, this link, Solar. Now my wire will melt away due to the sheer amount of downloads. What an indeed gruesome thing I think. At least it gonna keep my harddrives busy I reckon. *rofl*

Thanks, man.

Hey, cool. Til now I only knew I prefer working with the music on, but couldn't put finger on why. But you explained it perfectly. :)

Now I've listened to original Gloomy Sunday, too. Life is still great, no doubt about it. Now, maybe it's just that I didn't really understand it, and looking at the translation didn't really help me get depressed. :P

My favourite song would have to be either:

Hotel California || Take it Easy

both by the Eagles

Well, it changes quite often for me too, but I'm always into that hard rock stuff.

Currently I like best
System Of A Down - Forest (from Toxicity), and
Linkin Park - Carousel (from Hybrid Theory EP)

But it keeps changing. And change is always a good thing! :)

cheers
Joe

Hey, we used to play an SOAD song too - Aerials
For the rest some Linkin Park and Korn songs, however I noticed that my voice is not built for Chester's screaming parts ::). Anyway, making music is great ;D.

cheers Joe
