Hibernate in Win XP

Post by Neo »

I have this strange problem when I try to hibernate Win XP.
It says that the Keyboard driver is preventing this and never hibernates.

I just wondered if anybody else has seen this problem before and has an answer to this?

What that most likely means is that the keyboard driver is refusing to process the hibernate power command that it's being sent. Are you using a non-standard driver (ie. anything other than the default Microsoft one)?

Do you always hibernate? If you haven't rebooted it for ages then it probably has just had enough. Other than that you can reinstall the keyboard driver and see if that helps.

I do poweroff every day when I'm done.

I found the cause and resolution for this problem in http://support.microsoft.com

Code: Select all

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if a program installs a kernel-mode driver that attaches itself to the standard keyboard driver (I8042prt.sys). Examples of programs that exhibit this behavior include:
? Pgpdisk 6.02 and 6.5 (installs Pgpmemlock.sys and Pgpdisk.sys drivers)
? Adobe Type Manager 4.0 (installs the Atmhelpr.sys driver)

RESOLUTION
To workaround this issue, uninstall the offending program and reboot the system.

To resolve the issue contact the manufacturer to inquire about obtaining an updated version of the product that is designed for Windows 2000.
Try uninstalling some recently installed softwares. I believe this will solve your problem.
