I hate irony

Post by AGI1122 »

Well yesterday I finally bought my first vehicle that I own. A 1997 Ford F-150... and today I woke up to sound of hail, my poor truck. :'(

why a truck and not something else? i still find it amazing the whole USA + Trucks thing, since trucks are such selfish cars.

Yeah, I washed it right after the hail storm/rain storm stopped. I had to wash it anyway because the night before we went to a mud pit in it to test it out. But it could be in vain considering we are in tornado warnings, probably more storms and hail on the way.

Well I love a big truck which was my reason for getting it, it's in great condition and I got it at a great price considering it's condition. Although if I had $4,000 more I would have gone for my dream car. The 1995 Mazda RX-7.

You're still kind of lucky to live in the US. You pay per gallon about what we pay per liter. A liter of gasoline here costs between ?1 and ?1.30.

Plus, I do have a drivers license (see sig, still proud of it kind of) but I don't have a car, nor does my mother.

Jesus, 1 Euro for a litre of gasoline? That's heavy, I wouldn't even buy a car when I'd live whereever you live.

Cheap ?0.75/litre gasoline here. Anyway, even if I'd be old enough to get a driver's license, I wouldn't buy a car. I find that public transportation is good enough.

Shell.com current dutch prices:

Prijzen per: 25-03-2005
Euro ongelood Ultra Laag Zwavel    1.319
Super plus Ultra Laag Zwavel    1.373
Diesel Ultra Laag Zwavel    0.995
V-Power    1.368
V-Power Diesel    1.065

Shell.com current US prices:

ok, just found out shell.com does not list US prices. However, searching for "US florida gasoline prices" does give this:

http://198.6.95.31/

Current Avg.    $2.133    $2.264    $2.347    $2.299

Where I'll calculate with the 2.347 for your sake, since it's premium (93 octane) versus our lowest octane, most polluting (euro 95, 95 octane) costing ?1.319.

$1.30 ~= ? 1.00

$2.347 / ga => ?1.805 / ga

3.7854 l/ga, so 1.805 / 3.7854 => 0.4768 ?/l in the US

That means that in holland, we pay 177% more as the people in the US. Eero Ranik, you're only being ripped off for 57% more.

Gas prices are starting to become ridiculous. I live in Los Angeles, California and it's at about $2.40 I guess I shouldn't complain though with a lot of you Europe folks having to pay so much more. I remember a few years ago complaining when gas got up to $1.50. Ha, ha! But, public transportation absolutely sucks here! And the city is too big to walk anywhere... even the grocery store. So, it's own a car... or be cut off from the world. We don't have hail here though.

Yeah gas prices are horrible, and it's only getting worse as time progresses.

Anyway I just bought some new things for my truck today, finally got some floor matts, a steering wheel cover, seat covers, and some tireflys.

You've scaled that backwards, Australian dollars are less, not more, than American dollars. A$1.20 = US$0.95 (Assumed exchange rate of about A$1.00=US$0.80)

Be aware that that is per litre, not gallon, there's almost 4 litres in a gallon.

Bloody Queenslander.....

We're going for anywhere $1.30 - $1.60 up and down all over the place. (again that's per litre)

Remember also that whilst:
1 Gallon is about 4.5 Litres (plus change),

5 Gallons = 6 US Gallons. (just to confuse the matter)

Confuse? Just teach those annoying US people to use the metric system and it's all very logical... no this gallon vs that gallon, this mile vs that mile...

Small hint: Distances are measured in kilometers or meters. A kilometer is 1000 meters. Speed is measured in meters per second or kilometers per hour. Common in most places is the kilometer per hour notation, meter per second is usually only in physics class. Weights are in grams and kilogram, a kilogram being 1000 grams. Fluids are measured in litres. A litre is always exactly 1.0 dm^3 which is 0.001 m^3. A thousand litres fill up a cubic meter (just for the feeling of size).

Now, can you just start using this in all your normal day work & speech? Would make the entire world a lot less confused.

Oh and while you're at it, replace the idiotic dollar with the euro... it's worth a lot more and more stable :)

You're preaching to the choir, Candy. I agree the US should use the metric system. But just because I'm from the US, does that make ME annoying. I think I'm annoying not because I'm from somewhere in particular but just because I'm simply an annoying person. ;)

There are a lot of things the US SHOULD do. Or do differently. Sometimes I want to move to Europe. But for now... my car fits about 14 gallons and that costs me over $30 dollars.
