I am not giong to get political here but forus on ramifications of such change as the name entrenched too much into many software projects. Wonder what is going to happen if they change the deafult name?

github removes master references due to BLM
key takeaway after spending yrs on sw industry: big issue small because everyone jumps on it and fixes it. small issue is big since everyone ignores and it causes catastrophy later. #devilisinthedetails

Re: github removes master references due to BLM
Seems like it's pretty much surface level and won't change any aspect of existing projects or APIs. I think the idea is that by changing defaults, the new terminology will just gradually replace the old.
Personally I think if people are offended by it we lose literally nothing by changing terminology, but if this is just an attempt to get a bit of free marketing by piggybacking on the news of the day, I think it's in poor taste.

Honestly, I never understood those. I mean master/slave in a bus system makes sense, because the master tells the slaves what to do. Master/slave PIC makes sense because the master controls whether the slave can signal IRQs. Master/slave DMA makes sense for the same reason. But for IDE drives? It's just a drive-select pin. Might as well call them drive A and drive B.ggodw000 wrote:Oh yeah, there is master/slave IDE drive too.
