little known japanese cpu threatens intel, nvidia and amd, o
https://www.techradar.com/news/little-k ... hpc-market
Just read about another A64fx, that no one heard about it or at least me, ARM architecture appears to be best in terms of green (perf to power ratio) as well as memory transfer speed.
Not sure about their market penetration power though as no one hard about it or bothered with it. Seems unlikely to foray into general computing other than HPC/supercomputing.

key takeaway after spending yrs on sw industry: big issue small because everyone jumps on it and fixes it. small issue is big since everyone ignores and it causes catastrophy later. #devilisinthedetails

After the sixth popup on that internet address I gave up and left
Can you explain what kind of CPU that is? Is it for desktop PCs? Laptops? Smartphones? Single-board-computers?
What features does it have?
Greetings
Peter

It's ARM based. The application seems to be high performance data processing (supercomputing) with it's main feature being high memory <-> CPU bandwidth.

Sounds more like it's competing with IBM's POWER9 than anything x86.StudlyCaps wrote:with it's main feature being high memory <-> CPU bandwidth.

I don't get any popup. Nor when this was posted, nor now.

OK. But I got.kzinti wrote:I don't get any popup. Nor when this was posted, nor now.
The CPU sounds interesting. High bandwidth probably means a very wide bus. Sounds interesting.

hmm, it looked like for HPC application for supercomputers. I did not read well honestly, quickly glanced over. Definitely not for desktop, laptop arena.PeterX wrote:Yeah, but did you read what I wrote?ggodw000 wrote:Peterx, I already the URL in my OP.

Re: little known japanese cpu threatens intel, nvidia and am
well APPLE just announced they wlll use their ARM CPU-s, it seems bigger threat to x86 arenas as AMD notebook and desktops comprise of about 12% of the market. But biggest revenue driver for apple is its iphone /at least for now/ and their laptops are not dominant looking at the market share.
We will see whether it is a good move for apple or not.

I've already had problems with Apple equipment becoming obsolete when they changed from PowerPCs. I'm not going to risk that again so, if this is true, I've bought my last Apple computer. And I'm guessing that a lot of people will not risk buying another Intel-based Apple computer.
Edit: I note that no announcement has been made. At this stage it's just a rumour.
