Terry Davis passed away(?)

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Terry Davis passed away(?)

Post by Nutterts »

I added the question mark because... well it's Tarry David to be quite frank. He has quite a history. He did something not everyone can say he or she did. And TempleOS, well it seems it became exactly the OS he wanted to create. [Achievement unlocked]

The only thing I hope is that he finally found peace and what he was looking for.

I was waiting for a more reliable source, as the ownership and operation of templeos.org was unclear, and the screenshots of Facebook posts were not verifiable, but a local Oregon paper has confirmed that Terry was struck and killed by a train on August 11th, and it sounds very much like suicide.

Yes, it's true. He will be missed. For those who ran into a paywall in the article posted above, go here: https://pastebin.com/MtswwMSB

I have decided to implement DolDoc into my OS, as a tribute to him.

P.S. It's Terry Davis, not Terry David.

Thank you for catching that.

I have schizofrenia... watching those videos still is very confronting of how bad it can get without proper care. I just really hope he found his peace. One way or the other.

TempleOS is afaik public domain. It would be a shame if all the work he put into it would go to waste. If anyone ever needs a copy, find the website is down and ends up reading this. Just send me a PM.

Although I don't fondly recall his first appearance on this forum, he was something of a (albeit racist and mysoginist) character. He ended up with much more than most of us have or ever will, and though I doubt he will be actually missed by most here, I still feel something of a loss. May he be in 640x480, 16 colour, PC speaker heaven.

I will in fact miss Terry Davis, even though I've never even spoken to the man before. It was always enjoyable listening to him criticize Linux and other commercial operating systems for all of their various design flaws. My favorite in particular is his quote:

"Linux wants to be a 1970's mainframe" - Terry Davis

Which is amusing because it's so true. His TempleOS shares many of the ideologies that have shaped the design of my own operating system, the most important of course being simplicity. He wanted to put the "personal" back into personal computing, to bring back the golden age of 1980's home computers. What we need, he said, is a modern day Commodore 64, and I couldn't agree with him more. So RIP Terry, God no doubt has a special place for you up there in his temple.
