About ridiculous number of members without any post
About ridiculous number of members without any post
My last post in this forum was that there was ridiculous number of members which have not logged 8 years ago, but I have even better idea:
What about deleting users that were not logged for 3 months and have 0 posts made since their registration?
Every 0-posted person could easily register again and there may not be any difference.
We already know that iansjack just clicked "no" without reading the rest of the post...

They're not really doing any harm in being there. I think that maybe they should be deleted after a few weeks if they have not verified their email address though.

Why "no" people? I don't understand... Hard drives are paid for certain amount of money, and if you fill it with data without any valuable content you trash your money.
At least if somebody voted "yes" it would be better...

Compare a small DB record size with the cost of storage these days and then think about it.

You flatter yourself to think I voted anything.
But I cam't understand why people worry about a few bytes of storage in these days of billion-byte disks.

I think your trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Besides that, the site owner is free to delete any user (active or not) at his or her whim. If it's not a problem to him or her, it's not a problem to me.Lukand wrote:Why "no" people?

Just imagine people that done nothing on this forum but putted avatar! 12000 per one!
Not just about storage, it may increase the speed of searching users, improve overall server mainetence, ...

I don't have an opinion either way about old users but your maths looks wrong.Lukand wrote: 100 bytes * 80000 = 8000000KB!

100 bytes * 80,000 users = 8,000,000 bytes = 8MB != 8,000,000 KB != 8GB

Whoops. I meant 8.000.000 bytes, not kilobytes. Apologize. It's 23:00:40 (It really is) down there...

Re: About ridiculous number of members without any post
Let me put it in another way...
Which username are you after?
Because,
If it seemingly isn't a problem for the one actually paying the bill then why does it make you want to hold a poll about it?
As you notice... this site is quite snappy. So performance and maintenance also don't seem a problem.
So what is yours?

Yes it may, or it may not. That's just looking in a glass ball which I have at work. We have allot of sites and just one hosting provider there. Storage is free, we are charged by cpu and memory usage. So storage itself is certainly not an issue. Not just about storage, it may increase the speed of searching users, improve overall server mainetence, ...

Re: About ridiculous number of members without any post
This poll, and the resulting thread, is taking up the same amount of space as a very large number of user details.
