New York OSDev Convention anyone?

Post by AndrewAPrice »

Is there any interest in having an OSDev convention in New York City (or north eastern U.S. in general?) How many of you would attend? How much notice in advance would you need (3 weeks, 6 months?)

I wasn't thinking of it as anything too fancy, just a couple of guys sitting around a table in a cafe showing each other what they're working on on their laptops.

An interesting idea but for me the context switch (i.e. travelling in plain English) would be too expensive unless I had another reason to visit there. Of course, perhaps this was not an international meeting but more like a local one.

Hopefully you will have attendants. A short meeting memo needs to be posted here!

I would be interested in meeting up, I'm just over in Ohio. Depending on what all is planned I am not sure a 8-10hr drive would be worth it :\ But I would def consider it.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth it flying from Cairo, Egypt to New York to show my work. :(
You know your OS is advanced when you stop using the Intel programming guide as a reference.

You can travel if you want :-D but I was actually trying to ask if anyone that already lives in the area (because we have so many members) would be interested in a meetup.

Maybe it's an idea in general to see who wouldn't mind getting together with other forum members to have a drink, bbq or something like that this summer. Based on that and people's location some could take it on themselves to organize some local meeting.

With a bit of effort to have every meeting be at the same UTC time (maybe some webcams) and voila... you have yourself a global OSdev get together.

I'm highly skeptical about there being lots of people here that would be interested in it tho. But I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

I'd be interested, but I doubt anyone lives near me. I don't mind getting some beer and having a bbq by myself though. Well, I don't care about the bbq.

Or just outside that semantical dividing line

But yes, I'd need to know quite a while in advance to arrange things just for the occasion.

I'm not going to travel across Germany just for that, sorry. Maybe if it's a South German meeting.
