Ghost 0.3.0 - attempted german takeover!

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

А я и не знал про такое :) (I haven't paid attention)
Native speakers often just miss such interesting things about their language. And when some foreigner points to it - it is kind of some excitement for me :)

But in the particular case those words are almost always used in very different contexts, that's why the important meaning difference is escaping from native speakers.

I think that's a pretty common theme. Just from school classes, most students don't learn to actually speak a language, especially if there is no motivation besides school to learn the language.
Shame on me, but it is my case :) I had learnt German for more than 6 years in school, but now I have only some very simplified understanding of this thread (it's German part).

du menar lowlevel.eu? där finns en del intressant, men svarar mest för att få in mer svenska i tråden.

Jag förstår inte. Finns det någon här som talar engelska?

By the way, it is fun to see how plain and flat (hard to explain what I mean) all the texts written in English look like here.

IMHO, this is due to absence of diacritical marks and smaller spread (i.e. you can often see both very long and very short words in sentences written in other languages) of words' length in English.
This can also be due to pronunciation - you can read English sentences fluently and even try to sing them but it's really hard to sing songs in languages that you don't know well. If you try to pronounce sentences in such languages, it'll sound rippled and torn. But if you train more and more, then you can finally learn how to move from one word to another in a fluent way (i.e. how to connect words in speech).

I hope that my attempt to explain this situation wasn't a complete failure. >_<

This thread has been all over the place as far as topics are concerned.... And it's been 5 days since anyone has posted. Is it really time for this to be auto-deleted? I hope not!

As the community's dead-man's-switch, perhaps it could be retitled somewhat? :)

We should organize a follow up to the OSDev mini conference in Helsinki! I will (probably) be in Berlin from March 15 - 20, so some day in that period would be nice if we can gather some people from that area.

Are there even any people from that area here? Everyone who mentioned their place in this thread (and lives in Germany) seemed to be in the South.

Works for me!

And as for August, a great time to come to Berlin this year will be August 7, when the International Berlin Beer Festival kicks off. One of my annual highlights!
