Because was obscure the reality of history of Mel Kaye?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Your question doesn't make any sense.

As far as I understand the linked article, it's a fiction story based on real people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_Mel

Its very likely based on fact, and could believably be completely true.

I remember this story from a long time ago when I first came across it. I had no idea this was part of some larger mythology and essentially a fictional story. When I read it back then I actually thought this guy was the real deal.

Now it might be impressive the way he constructed his program but I would not recommend programming like that if you want to maintain it.

I would recommend that you make sure you are the kind of person who doesn't need to ask. Just get on with it and build whatever it is that you see the need to build. You shouldn't need the advice or approval of anyone here for that because you should already be the expert in what you want to do.
I've just read the section on Real Programmer - http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/R/Real-Programmer.html. Are you able to see that it is meant to be funny? It is making fun of these people who think they are "real programmers" and that other people aren't. This kind of programming was done out of necessity when there was no alternative. As soon as there were easier ways of working, it became obsolete. There is no need to write code bit by bit unless you are trying to test yourself just to see if you could have done it, or perhaps to turn yourself into a living work of art. If you want to do either of those things, just get on with it. Pick a platform, study its machine instructions and start building something.
