Not so bad here in Berlin. -6°C at the moment, expected to be above zero on the weekend.

My German language class is starting today, so I might soon be able to understand this thread without Google Translate... ;)

I did two years of German at school and I can't speak or read a word of it :(

I help someone with high school maths and German homework from time to time, but although she gets the homework correct almost all the time and she has learned German for several years, she's to shy to speak German with me and we speak only Estonian. But I have some colleagues who are perfectly fluent in German.

I think that's a pretty common theme. Just from school classes, most students don't learn to actually speak a language, especially if there is no motivation besides school to learn the language. Though I think if you ever decide that you really want to learn this language (for you it's German, for me it would be Spanish), you already have the basics and probably remember more than you might expect. The important part then is just using the language as much as you can, at whatever low level you may have.
