The Moon OS [ Demo Version] now released

Post by Chandra »

"HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011"

On this auspicious day, I thought to release my progress so far.
The Moon OS Demo Version is available for download.

Needless to say, there are still a lot of sections to work. This is just the demo version and therefore doesn't actually represent the final product. Nevertheless, I've tried to fix all the bugs as far as possible, though there are still many limitations.Everything is focused on fancy graphics because I believe it is the most contributing thing for attracting users. Due to the lack of time ( Right now, I've another business to deal with), I couldn't furnish my OS fully. I know very well that I could've written better kernel if I had chosen to write things in better way rather than simple way.

Anyway, it should catch your eye. I'm thinking about posting some screenshots as well.

If you have any ideas, praises, views, comments, questions, likes and dislikes, please post them here.
I'd love to hear from you people.

And of course, I apolize for any inconvinience.

Looking forward to get response.

Edit: Dead Links Updated!

Best Regards,
Chandra

It looks great!

One major issue I found was that none of the menus work, and sometimes other controls are not functional, like the entire "piano" app. The icons and maximize/exit buttons always work though. I'm using QEMU 0.11.1 with just the "-vga std" option.

True. This is the demo version personally planned to release on the eve of new year. My next complete release shall remove all the limitations therein.

As far as Piano program is concerned, i tested it under QEMU, Virtual PC and under my real hardware as well and it worked on all 3 of them. Let me test it again to see if there is any problem.

HAVE A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

Well, I found that the Piano program itself didn't have any problem. I realized that it was Bochs which seem to be causing the problem (though this is not a problem at all). The point is that Bochs doesn't output any kind of sound and hence it seems as if the Piano program is not working. Anyway, it works under Qemu, Virtual PC and even under real hardware if you have internal PC beep speaker.

Thank you for reporting this.

Best Regards,
Chandra
