Where to get a hard copy of AMD manuals ?

Post by Neolander »

Hello everyone !

I just hate big PDFs on regular desktop computers. They induce high eye-strain and I quickly get bored with the endless scrolling. Maybe, one day, A4-sized kindle-like e-ink devices will be easily available at a reasonable price, but for the time being, all I can do is getting a printed copy of some sort.
Printing at home or at work may work well with 6-pages long proceedings, but it doesn't work with 500-pages long architecture developer manuals, so I've got to think about something else.

Some times ago, there used to be a way to get a hard copy of Intel manuals for free. Since the beginning of the year, it's over, but I don't care since I prefer AMD's manuals anyway. However, I did not find out how to order a hard copy of AMD manuals on their site, including through searchboxes. So I wonder : did some of you manage to get a hard copy of the AMD manuals ? If so, how ? I don't care if it's free or not, I'm ready to pay for such precious material...

I remember sending requests for these manuals to [email protected] and [email protected] about 4 years ago, but never received an answer. (At the same time I sent a similar request to Intel and they delivered their books within a few weeks.) But this might help you:

IIRC, neither Intel nor AMD offer printed manuals anymore, even if you're willing to pay for them.

You can still obtain hard copies from Intel, see here, also of interest is this page for older documents (..non-hard copy).

I sent an email to AMD before about hard copies, and got this response (..mail headers available upon request).
Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting AMD Customer Care,

We thank you for your interest however we no longer provide hard copies of documentation.

Regards
Desmond

Sorry, but, at least PDF copies are available.. you could print them off.

I did that a couple weeks ago and ended up getting an email saying printed copies were no longer available, and I instead got a CD with the PDFs on them.

This is what I hate with e-Bay... You're just so damn close to what you want, but never right there (I live in france)... However, someone living in the US might find the first link highly interesting. :)

Tried to look for Intel too, but it looks like people only sell some Itanium crap...

If someone knows about another website where you can find used books, please let me know ;) Otherwise... Well... Gonna find out something else by myself

I can't print that much all by myself (Volume 2, that I absolutely need, is already 540 pages long), but maybe somebody in the world of printing can do this for me for a reasonable price... Gonna ask ^^
