Assembly on Mac OS X

I wanted to take a look at assembly programming in mac os x. I found out that there is a compiler on the operating system but non of the hello world programs I have found will compile on it. I was wondering if anyone knew of any web pages about how to do assembly programming on mac os x and more importantly a hello world program in assmebly for mac os x so I can check the compiler works.
