hey!
guys. i need help.
i have a nokia n71 cellphone.
i bought it like, in 2006. and it's been fine..until now.
i dunno how it happened, but one day, i notice that suddenly, the call log application opens up on its own, then exits, and opens up again, and exits.
this goes on and on, until i bang the phone.
after which, it behaves fine for like, 5 minutes, and then messes around once again.
my life has sucked ever since.
i'm a huge music buff, and this phone's the only way i stay sane after grueling hours at college.
can anyone help? please?
thanks!
PS - i really don't have the resources to give the phone to service centres, 'cause it's out of the warranty period. i'd prefer tinkering around then paying those people a fortune!

"Do you program in Assembly?" she asked. "NOP," he said.

Re: nokia n71 help!
Hi,
I know nothing about that particular model, but would it be cheap(ish) to buy a data cable? If so and system software updates are downloadable, you could try completely reflashing the whole thing.
Cheers,
Adam

Hi ,
I also like music too . One plausible soulution should be throwing your nokia away and buying a new sony erricson walkman series mobile phone . They give more bang for the buck . Asfar as i know nokia uses symbian os in its mobile phone . Some searching gives me this : http://www.amazon.com/Symbian-OS-Intern ... 0470025247 .

Re: nokia n71 help!
A Sony Ericsson Walkman is in no way comparable to an Nokia N-Series smartphone (Though why so many people buy smartphones and then don't use them as such confuses me).
My advice would be get a USB cable for the phone, and a Windows PC with Nokia PC Suite on it. Backup your data (Contacts, messages, etc, then do a firmware reset of your device (A quick google should do it). Then check for any firmware updates and install them if available to see if the bug is fixed.
(Aside: I'm particularly happy with my Nokia 5800 all-round)

Maybe one of the buttons is physically damaged? Doesn't the green call button bring up the call log?
Try removing the fascia. Does it do it while the keypad is locked? Any keypad tones?
Edit: This is probably in the wrong place.......
