What is the difference between OS and RTOS?

Post by skwee »

Hi, recently I heard of VxWorks so I read about it and it says that this is Real Time OS (RTOS). So I wonder what is the difference between RTOS and a regular OS?
Thanks

All Real Time Operating Systems are Operating Systems. Not all Operating Systems are Real Time operating systems. There are volumes on the internet discussing Real Time operating systems and even wikipedia has a decent description.
