This is getting very much OT. If you're really interested in my take, visit my blog (signature...) - sooner or later I'll get around to writing about the FSF and the GPL, too.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

I can't see any reason for using UltraEdit.
I use the following Editors:
Linux: Geany
Windows: Notepad++
Windows Mobile: Vieka WordPad

I dunno, there's something to be said for being able to use the same program on multiple OSes. You'll only have one interface to learn, customize, tweak, whatever. Sure you'll have to customize it a couple of different times, but it'll be the same steps over and over instead of hunting around for the appropriate settings between all your editors trying to get them to behave the same way.
