Silver $20 bill!
(This is not spam, read on [DON'T BUY THIS])
http://www.911twenty.com/
You've seen it on TV. For face value + $4.95 s&h, you can get a silver-leafed $20 bill with the twin towers. "NATIONAL COLLECTOR'S MINT RELEASES THIS GOVERNMENT AUTHORIZED, NON-CIRCULATING, LIBERIAN LEGAL TENDER SEPTEMBER 11TH COMMEMORATIVE."
It's on TV, it sounds legitimate, it's legal tender, straight from the mint, never circulated.
Here's the thing -- it's worth: $0.34!!! And it is NOT legal tender, (only in LIBERIA)!!
How could you miss that?
The same company has gotten in trouble several times before for their scams.
DON'T BUY IT. Or have you already bought it?

Re: Silver $20 bill!
I don't have to worry about that.
The thing that got me mad: we did lose our currency starting from 1.1.2009, it's being replaced with euro. Fico, you #)@*$%^!
Let's see... one euro 50 cent equals.. 1,5*30,12 = 45,18 former koruna's. That equals two bags of salted crisps. Or one bag + two waffers. beh. I'm not used to euro though. Just compare, that 1.5 SKK (one koruna, 50 halier's) was worth of one dry breadroll. Ah well, time to switch to smaller numbers now. Besides, prices already went high to make the final product's euro-price more nice, a rounded number. Of course, the salary at your same workplace didn't rise up.
And now in the worldwide crisis, Russians decided to shut off the gas supply for Ukraine. The supply goes through us, too, so we're shut off also. We still have a container supply of gas for the next 70-80 days. Plus, if the Russians will not get along with Ukraine, I think it's the best time to start the V-1 reactor...

Re: Silver $20 bill!
I didn't realise that there were currently countries actively joining the European Single Currency. Over here, it was a big point of debate when the Euro first came out. The Conservatives (current main opposition party) basically lost an election (or did worse than they would have done) because their only policy at the time was "Keep the Pound".The thing that got me mad: we did lose our currency starting from 1.1.2009, it's being replaced with euro.
I don't see us going over to the Euro anytime soon - mainly because our current PM was the Chancellor and likes to have control of the finances, and also because of general sentimentality. Personally, I only think that export businesses over here will ever have much of a chance if we do go over to the Euro. It would be odd using "lend us a Euro" instead of "lend us a quid", though
Cheers,
Adam
Re: Silver $20 bill!
We entered the European union in 2004, and then it was only matter of time. I'm not into politics though, but I would leave the koruna intact if I could. Now, it doesn't matter. Eh, our ancestors wouldn't be happy that we lost our own currency the second time. It was used in the second world war, when we were the State and Czechs were the protectorate.AJ wrote:I didn't realise that there were currently countries actively joining the European Single Currency.
Ah, I remember the prices ten years ago: one breadroll was 0.5 Sk or even 0.2, crisps were 11... decent computers for that time (Pentium IIs) more than 25 000 now a Pentium II based PC isn't worth even 100,- (or should I say 100/30,126 EUR), I've got a box full of that stuff last year for free.
Heh, and I remember two, maybe three years ago: one British pound was 59Sk...

Re: Silver $20 bill!
We weren't happy to abandon the D-Mark, either. I'm still not sure if it's a good or a bad thing overall, economically. Too many factors come into it. But it sure is nice not having to worry about exchange rates or how far it is to the next currency exchange when being abroad. I also imagine that non-European buyers have an easier time figuring out whether to buy from a German, a French, or a Slovak supplier when they don't have to open a spreadsheet first...
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

well, what to say, to much to do in too little space.

Heh, now this is pretty funny: there was a big mis-calculation, there is not enough pressure (or something like that) in the tanks and the eastern part has only 10 days till they're completely cut off from gas. The best on the overall situation is the western part of Slovakia, where I live. This will be fun - it's cold everywhere and the boiler rooms are made on gas, time to temporary switch on electricity.

There are some advantages of having a 5000l oil tank in the basement...

It could be a good idea to build a bigass hot air dispenser that costs you zero... a huge resistance wire and a big motor. Add fan blades to the motor, limit the maximum current and put it behind the wire.
