Hi ,
I am planning to take a video game design console course at http://www.gameinstitute.com. I work as a full time employee for a firm . I would like to improve some of my skills .Is it really worth taking the course ?. Anyone here having taken such courses ? Any suggestions ?
Regards
Sandeep

I'm just a hobbyist in 3d modeling and animation using Maya. I never had such courses, but I would say that if you read the manual of your program you 're using and try some free tutorials, you 'll be able to improve your skills.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply .You see I am not a hobbist , I am a working Software Engineer , I need to improve my skills inorder to remain competent and useful for the company which i work for . I need to improve my communication skills as well as technical skills . I was blameing everthing else instead of myself for remaining incompetent. Although I have screwed up big time in many occasions , i need to improve.I want to work in the embedded domain , game domain or system software domain which is not really the domain which i currently work in . I cannot go for a full time course , so was considering taking an online course.

Re: Gameinstitute.com
Which aspect are you trying to improve? If it is just an overall improvement it may not be a bad idea. But if you are looking to improve your expertise in a particular area of game design, I would find a more focused way to learn. For example, if you work primarily on game engines, probably would be more beneficial to focus on mathematics (dealing with vectors and matrices, etc.) and calculus-based physics than a general game design course. Just my two-cents worth
