UbixOS - Back from the grave...

Post by MrOlsen »

Well after a few years of sitting on the shelf UbixOS has sprung back to life.. Since it has been sitting on the shelf
most of the old team is either no long interested or missing in action. We are now in our team building phase and looking to take on some new members...

Now for encouragement.... We can't pay directly however if you're accepted as part of the team you will be made a co-owner and have the ability to share in the profits. We do have a contact with another firm that will guarantee to buy licensing as long as it meets the requirements...

All of you interested in more information or just in need of more feel free to contact me here or via email

*wonders why*

;)

Well we did have a big gap of noncommunication... Mostly on my part... Some of the old guys are there...
But it's time to clean house and get some fresh ideas....

I have a company which sells BSD based servers... I'm just trying to bring our codebase up to match some of the features which I'm utilizing in BSD....

When the project left off we had a quasi gui, compile and libc... Most of it's still working but it's a bit rusty.

What kind of OS is this? a UNIX-like? Never heard of it before.

googling this OS produced next-to nothing as far as useful info. The website is just as vague/uninformative. If you want 'fresh new developers' you should probably tell more about the design of the OS and why exactly people would even bother with helping.

Whois records indicate the domain has existed since 2001, don't remember it though..

EDIT: The great Wayback machine has jogged my memory, I remember visiting the site while it still appeared like they were trying to attract developers.. ;)

Yes... I do apologize for that the site is just getting back to organized...

The project does date back as far as 2001 the original site remains here -> http://www.ubixos.com/docroot.old/index.old.html

There are also some screen shots here -> http://www.ubixos.com/docroot.old/temp/ss/

It is a Unix/Posix like os with what termed a Hybrid Kernel simply because of the fact that the kernel was a mix of both monolithic and micro kernel features. We were going to go completely micro however we decided for certain performance reasons it was better to keep a few services such as memory management in kernel....

To the point where we left off we had a nice set of user land tools, the kernel was robust with a IP stack, many drivers, MPI, MM, scheduler and more which you can probably still read about at the old site...

As far as I go.. I used to be a regular here but under a different name... TheUbu most likely....
