the-button-which-is-called-the-startbutton-by-microsoft-but-it's-just-the-button-to-access-the-main-menu-button is a begin, isn't it :P

If that's just the begin, I think I'll keep calling it the "Start Button".

The point with the control in question is that it's used for one of these purposes, but in normal speech to somebody who didn't use it yet (which may be hard to find) you have to use a name that describes what they should look for. Something called "start" in the form of a button is pretty much as descriptive as you could get with that specific control. There is no name that short which is that descriptive.

Agreed, the official name should not be start button. Yet, for all noobs and people who do not use the system daily (such as me) it's pretty much the descriptive name for the windows controls. If you use windows daily, call it by the official name or whatever suits you.

making a DHTML GUI is really no big deal, check out http://bindows.net/ or www.dojotoolkit.org. Bindows is more of what you are looking for, but dojo has some gui stuff. And a tutorial: http://www.webreference.com/programming ... r/column6/
