a DHTML GUI ^_^
a DHTML GUI ^_^
hi all,
I started developping a "DHTML GUI" coz one of my friends told me that such a think is not possible
but when i took the chalenge i found the idea very interesting... and why not to develope a remote window manager
so here is the url of this os (WOS) :
http://xos.freezee.org/wos/
it's an early early early alpha stage with some incompatibilities with mozilla
I'm waiting for your feedbacks ...

Re:a DHTML OS ^_^
I would very much prefer if people would stop calling everything that has a start button and a couple of windows "operating system"...
Other than that... a truly geeky idea.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

Re:a DHTML OS ^_^
*rofl*
I should maybe call my OS "startbuttonOS" in the future, because in GUI mode it sports a start button. *chuckle*
I've taken a shoot at that page too. 's been kinda geeky stuff. *ggg*

BTW : it's not a real project it's only a "geeky idea" as you said, my real OS project is http://xos.freezee.org
BTW2 : I'm currently writing a javascript to support BSODs ... it will show a BSOD every ....erm.... random(30min) :p
Re:a DHTML OS ^_^
w00t, I'm surfing with it ;D
Bug report: when I type mega-tokyo.com/forum (or www.mega...) I would prefer if it took me there instead of googling for it. also adding http:// didn't help.
windows can't be resized. this was a real turn-off.
all in all, this is REALLY neat and registers a 11/10 on the geek meter ;D
Cheers, DH.

Lots of fun, great to know that other folks also like to just screw around with wacky ideas.
I remember someone did something similar with flash a while back (Can't remember the URL).

Re:a DHTML OS ^_^
you have to click "GO" button tu surf to the website, coz, if you press enter your browser will reload the page not the miniBrowser windowDragon_Hilord wrote: w00t, I'm surfing with it ;D

Re:a DHTML GUI ^_^
i may need to upgrade my mozilla browser, but when moving the 'google' window, i see a flickering 'ghost' window doing the same movement somewhere like half a screen on the right ...
Re:a DHTML GUI ^_^
Yeah it's buggy in FF too, he wrote that in the first post.
Re:a DHTML GUI ^_^
Why does everyone call it the 'start button' since Microsoft does so..I should maybe call my OS "startbuttonOS" in the future, because in GUI mode it sports a start button.
Re:a DHTML GUI ^_^
I dont know why mozilla do that when moving Minibrowser window, I think that it is because of the iframe, but i don't know the reason :/Pype.Clicker wrote: i may need to upgrade my mozilla browser, but when moving the 'google' window, i see a flickering 'ghost' window doing the same movement somewhere like half a screen on the right ...

Although everybody is calling it 'a truly geeky idea' and making a bit of fun of it, I'm still going to reply in a serious way.
Depending on where you want to go with your OS, if you're actually going for the ultimate networking experience, this is not such a bad idea. Simply because your windows manager is rendering dhtml pages, you can also switch your desktop with your favorite website. Imagine your second desktop is your browser 24/7. Sounds silly, but then again, you can have F11-modus (I have to call it something...) without limitations. It'll probably speed up a few things too.
Next to that, we're seeing a lot of applications recently getting 'online'. I've seen editors, irc & msn clients, database editors, other basic shell like websiteds etc. This gives operating systems compatability/portability an insane boost (if every browser renders it correctly, but I'm not going to flame about that). In that case, if they main user interface is able to render and use these incredibly lightweight applications at an increased speed (see previous point) it could be a serious app-killer. Pardon the expression.
While typing this more and more ideas pop up in my head, but I'll stuck to these two for now. Does this sounds reasonable?

@wacco :
I allready said that the next point in my project is to code the BSOD :p ...
no .... seriously, I also have a lot of ideas and i'm planning to start a real project about this idea, actually, I'm codding the window management system (creating, resizing, ..etc)
then I'll add menus and icons, and maybe interface some I/O with a real linux tty ^^
