Why I hate Lenovo and why I MUST have one!

Post by Zacariaz »

I'll admit that i never was very fond of Thinkpad's, but when I found out about the x61 tablet I was suddenly VERY interested. Why? I should think that's pretty obvious, but the only reason I need is: It has everything you could wish for and if the base model don't have it, you can't get it as an add-on from Lenovo's online shop, all except Danish keyboard, but that I can live with.

So I went to their shop and started putting together my custom Thinkpad and was somewhat amassed that even With all the most expensive stuff (4 g ram, 200 gig hdd with encryption and so forth (no software and gadgets)) the price barely got past $3000! Then, of course, I found that they for some reason don't ship this model to Denmark...

So I went on to google to find a Danish reseller, but while they do exist, very few of them (if any) sell the "newer" x61 tablet, which among other things has multitouch display, hsdpa turbo 3g and so forth. Those I found who actually came close to what I wanted didn't give any option as for customization, thus I would have to buy 2*2 gigs of ram, 8 cell battery...

I also found one or two Lenovo partners who actually could provide what I wanted, but guess what... No sales to private persons, only company's...

Oh ya, I almost forgot, the price in Denmark is more or less double of what you'd get at Lenovo's webshop, and that's for something which don't even come close to what I want.

Anyway, I've been searching for a place to buy my new laptop for two weeks now and I'm in a bad mood.

I realize this is my problem and mine alone, but I had to get it out and who knows, maybe one of you actually knows of a solution to my problem.

I had the same problem when ordering my tablet. So I got my parents to order it for me.

Perhaps you know someone you can trust in a company or a country they will deliver to to forward it on to you?

I probably know someone in a company that could help me, however, in Denmark there is quite a lot of rules, regulation and procedures so it would probably be quite complicated. I don't really know anyone outside Denmark, well, com to think of it I do have some family in the UK, but it would be nice with a danish keyboard.

anyway, thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna check out some UK sites for prices and stuff.

I have though about a possible solution to my problem.

It is possible, all though I have yet to find a dealer, to buy a brand new keyboard for the x61 tablet in whatever language you want, thus I'm hoping that it's possible to buy my new laptop from, let say Germany, and then simply replace the keyboard with a danish one.

It seems simple enough, however, I can imagine that the story doesn't end there and as I know hardly nothing about this subject, I would really like your opinion on this.

Also, what about mobile broadband modems, hsdpa, 3G (whatever it's all called), what are the differences from country to country? Will a device that works in Italy work in Denmark?

Thanks

edit:
I have found a dealer, actually at Lenovo, so that's one problem solved ;)

Hi I know I am late (very) with an answer, but i have a solution to your problems, as I live in Scandinavia and solved the situation myself.

I wanted a Thinkpad. T61. I think they rule, I have now got one, and it rocks, especially with Linux and the keyboard is a godsend for developing software.

Anyways, to the point. I have ordered from the Lenovo webshop to a third pary address. I used a company called MyUS.com (NOT ADVERTISEMENT!!!), they set up a temporary address where you can have stuff shipped, stuff that does not ship beyond U.S. of A. They charge a percentage fee of the order price, but it is rather small, and the service is worth it. They get your Thinkpad and ship it to you in Europe. Mine shipped with DHL. You have a webpage where one can view orders, and customize the profile. All in all, I am glad I have bought the Thinkpad in U.S. as you are absolutely right when you say they cost double in Scandinavia, and that with worse specs.

So, if you did not do the stupid thing and payed twice as much for a mediocre model in Denmark, winning only a Danish keyboard, I would very much recommend doing it the way I did. The people at MyUS.com are quite friendly, and answer a whole lot of questions that arise, and deal with unexpected issues too, like when I had to tell them the exact specs of the machine I wanted, and a guy went online and ordered it for me himself.

Good luck.
