I was wondering, does anybody think it's feasible to reverse engineer the CUDA system to try and try and make it possible for OSdevers to use an NVidia GPU's mathematical abilities?
Also would it be legal to release these findings if the research was to yield any results?
I was thinking about putting it on a todo list.... because reverse engineerings something I have a nack for...

Re: CUDA
All nvidia code comes with an license that requires you that you will not reverse engineer, disassemble, or anything similar. It also states that if a clause is in conflict with law, then you should ignore only those clauses.
Which means you may only do so if your UK law grants the non-revokable right to reverse engineer, about which I'm not certain. (The only thing I know for sure is that here in holland, I can, and in the US I can not)

I don't think UK law gives us that right..., damn need to move to Holland...
Anybody know?

Re: CUDA
So in Holland you can do reverse engineering...legally???
I love Holland!
Legalize now!!! (not marijuana but reverse engineering )

Re: CUDA
Reverse engineering is legal in Canada as well, and you don't even have to do it the US "clean room" way.
Re: CUDA
Why do I have to live in a country where nobody cares about reverse engineering let alone know what it is , sniffBrynet-Inc wrote:Reverse engineering is legal in Canada as well, and you don't even have to do it the US "clean room" way.

Re: CUDA
It's legal in Australia too. Canada and Australia both inherited Commonwealth law, so who knows it might be the same in the UK as well?

Re: CUDA
With the UK government's apparent love of the US, who knows? Grrr
