What have I done?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

but on top of everything from XP...
Probably wasn't a great idea, especially if the XP install was on NTFS. As you said (and frank provided a solution for), the file owner is one in your XP install, and the permissions musn't be set right.

Yah looks like it was a really stupid idea...
But at least it's allowed me to finally get round to actually installing linux instead of constantly putting it off...
Thanks for the tip frank, I hadn't reallised all this stuff about ownership (there's loads of new confusing security stuff....).
Well I'll probably also install GRUB so that my XP can work again, so that I can do both....
I think what it did is it wrote a "data only" MBR onto all other disks that didn't have the vista OS on it..., so I can no longer use XP, but I'm sure grub will fix that....
Also, does anybody know off a linux live disk that will allow you to natively install on an NTFS partition?
Thanks for all the help,

Jules

P.S. finally irony: the only reason I installed this was to play Crysis under DX10, to see if my PC could take it with max graphics, but for some reason I can't get it to work....

There are only few games supporting DX10 and it isn't a big deal too. I've chosen to stay on XP - my graphics card supports DX10 but upgrade to Vista to that? My sister has Vista on laptop and no thank you. Vista is for computer newbies and girls. ;) "A 32 million color in amazing 3-D" operating system that has stability as a dish on a 10 foot pole, is no use to me... but yeah everybody makes mistakes.

BTW have you heard about the new Windows? It's called "Windows CEMeNT":

I just watched your video, quite funny  "Ce Me NT"
When they showed the vista boxes, there was a pink one, never seen it before, does it really exist?
Oh and by the way, there's nothing wrong with OSes for girls, not only do we have a few girls on this forum (a very very very very few), but e even has a PSOD (Pink screen of death  )

You've got some issues then.

Anyways did you try 3DMark06 at default settings, 1280x1024 with your graphics card? If so, can you post your results? :)

No problems, I'll do it right this moment, but I don't have 3Dsmark installed on vista (for obvious reasons  )
I'll install it, do a restart (Haven't restarted in ages and I want it to be at it's best :D ), then do the test and post the results...
Oh and sexist [-X

I'll get it overclocked properly like it is normally (I recently had to do a BIOS reset...) and then post some more results...

and I completely support chick OS's. I personally find computer literate girls more mentally attractive, therefore I am all for getting more girls into devving/gaming/etc... =)
