Video games, anyone?
Red alert 2 is made of concentrated win. Too bad the net code sucks.
edit: Lately I have been playing a lot of TF2. I used to play DOD:S, BF2, the Half-Life series.
I also really enjoyed Deus Ex and System shock 2.

Last console I owned, or played with for any significant amount of time, was an Atari VCS 2600.
Today I find that games are distinctly lacking somehow. Sure I enjoyed European Air War (my first "real" 3D flight simulator), and I enjoyed CoD (my first 3D shooter), and I enjoyed Red Orchestra (my first 3D shooter vs. human opponents), and I enjoyed WoW (my first MMORPG). But none of them really captured me, none of them ever was the pure joy I felt when playing Kaiser, The Bard's Tale (I, II, and III), or Worms: DC.
I, too, believe that the advent of the 3D game marked a sharp decline in game design.
Today I usually play flash games for quick "one-shot" enjoyment, and then return to my coding environment.

Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
I agree. In the early days, when consoles and computers lacked "power", the game designers had to focus on the gameplay instead, but today it's all about the graphics and the more complicated control the better it seems.
It's getting harder and harder for me to find new games which I actually care to play.
ATM I don't play that much, mainly because I'm now running linux and still has to acquaint my self with it all.
My favorite games:
Armagetron Advanced
Transport Tycoon/Open TTD
Heroes of might and magic III (maybe also V, haven't decided yet.)
Entropia Universe (formerly known as Project Entropia)
Various versions of Need For Speed.
The game where two gorillas throws explosive bananas after each others
and so on...
Most of all i like games where mouse sensitivity is not relevant. The "mouse" is, IMHO, the worst invention ever, thus I hate most games where the mouse is used a lot.
Edit:
I am unable to vote at it would have to be a combination of the pc and console. I like the idea of a computer designed for gaming, but I often hate the controls. (Allthough the WII control has it's bright sides.)

This was supposed to be a cool signature...
I've always been able to find at least one game per "generation" that completely captures me from those random shareware games I used to play in dos to doom, duke 3d, dark reign, kknd, half-life, Red Alert 2, and onwards.
I used to spend heaps of time making crappy doom maps. Then when Duke Nukem 3D came out I spent even longer making less crappy maps.
I would say from my perspective that game quality has increased over time. The 'best' games of the time are not exactly 'better at the time' now than in the past but there are generally more games of a higher quality now than in the past. Back when Doom came out there was only one Doom and then there were a bunch of crappy clones. Nowdays there is more competition.
If, for instance, I get sick of playing TF2 online I can switch to Day of Defeat source, or Call of Duty 4 online, or even Battlefield 2 (which I am sure there are still servers for).

Not much time to play, but the game that I've enjoyed the most (and finished the most) is Diablo 2 (and the expansion). Bought Titan Quest (and the expansion) which I have yet to finish. Played some of the Half-Life games (think I finished the first) and that one game with the matrix like fighting (forgot the name).
Just bought a playstation 3 (mainly for blu-ray playback) with ratchet & clank and gran turismo 5 prologue which is my first console ever (unless you count my PSP [for when I'm flying], but haven't played much games on it).
Loved Valve's little Portal game and I'm hoping Blizzard is going to release a successor to Diablo 2 soon (an announcement might happen later this month).
Wish I had more time to play games, especially now that I have a 1080p projector

I mainly play openttd, lots of stuff from kdegames, and I'm an Guitar Hero 3 addict (which would be the only thing I do on a console). In between I play the previous generation Command&Conquer games (Red Alert 2, Tiberian sun), nethack, Touhou, Unreal Tournament (usually playing coop with the single player mod, i.e. also Unreal 1, RTNP and Operation Na Pali), and episodically, one random pick of the 92 games in my start menu
And if it counts, Zelda/Twilight Princess, mainly to do the Twilight Hack

Sure, I play a lot of games. That's how I got interested in programming.
I used to play console games all day long, and couldn't imagine ever coming to a point in my life where it would get old or boring. I still do play console games occasionally, but these days it's almost always the case that I have something better to be doing, or there's a game on the PC that I'd rather play.
PC games generally just interest me more these days, and have a number of advantages over consoles (no need to buy multiple consoles, the PC does more than just play games, mouse and keyboard make some games much easier, etc.).
Of course, programming PC games can be just as interesting...
