Video games, anyone?

How many people here play video games and what is your favourite platform and games?

I myself, like story-driver first-person shooters (Half-life), real time strategies, a big fan of RPGs (Morrowind, Oblivion), and old classics (Super Mario). Well, I don't really consider myself limited to any selection of genres, since I would play anything that is fun and can keep my attention.

World of Warcraft was fun while it lasted, but I didn't want to keep paying the subscription when I was too busy to play.

When I shop around I tend to go for games with high replayability or large enough to keep me amused for months - so I go for epic RPGs like Oblivion, open-ended strategy games like Civilisation and Spore. Nothing would be worse than spending $70-$100 for a game which you complete in 3 hours (in which case I should have just bought a movie ticket instead).

I also like Xbox Live Arcade games like Rez HD, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures, Band of Bugz and just browsing around the Live Marketplace to see what I can find

I'm mostly an Xbox 360 gamer although I use to (and still do occasionally) play PC games.

Back in the "good ole days", I used to be in to console gaming (NES / SNES / GB) and before that, we had a BBC Model B Micro, where I could play 'Killer Gorrilla', 'Repton' and other classics.

Now, I'm not in to console gaming at all and just play games on the PC. I like open-ended games too and am currently in to X2: The Threat and Wolfenstein ET, which has the advantage of being freeware I also got hours of fun out of GTA: Vice City.

I would like to try X3: Reunion, but don't think my old PC would stand up to it. In all the 'X' games, the story line is rubbish (and they use names like 'Ban Danna' ), but you don't have to follow that at all and can just cruise through space pirate-hunting, being a pirate, or building up a business empire.

i voted PC mainly because i play all my console games in emulators

I play only PC games. I tried Call of duty 3 on a PSP and it didn't was so entertaining than CoD2 or CoD4 on a PC. For example, aiming with the PSP's joystick was a pain in the arse.

Good ol' Wolfenstein 3D... no aiming, only left, right, up, down, open, strafe, fire!!

I mostly play on the XBOX 360, because I find it faster than my 3.0ghz intel pc. I often play on GTAIV, H3 and CoD4.

Play on PC only, I like FPS, but these day's the developers tend to focus to much on the graphics and not enough on good/long story line, so you pay loads for a game and then you finish it in a few hours (e.g. crysis (Yes the graphics did compensate a bit (shiny))).

Since the NES\SNES\PS1 days of lovely animated sprites and lustrous 2D backgrounds have gone the way of the dinosaurs and been replaced with 3D, I've lost my faith in the Japanese game industry, and, ultimately video games in general.

I like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tales of, etc. The only 3D RPG'S I've had interest in were several for the PS1, and a few for the PS2.

Recently, the RPG's being put out just seem 'hollow'. I'm not really sure why, exactly. In part, I feel it's related to the aforementioned series being used to death by their now multibillion dollar companies, and lack of new material.

CounterStrike: Source and NeedForSpeed: Most Wanted are about all I play, and I rarely play even those.

I did enjoy Pokemon on the GameBoy and DS though =).

CS:S for me at the moment.

I'm also a fan of the Grand Turismo series, as well as the Commander Keen series.

I love Age of Empires,Warcraft , then I like chess -- I have defeated Crafty , Rebel(great engine , difficult to win ) and Chess Champ and Jester (almost most always loses against me!) . Window Vista Chess Titans is not very strong as well , I have defeated it easily on level 6 or so ... but i do not have a vista machine -- will try all the levels when i get hands on one!

I bought myself a Nintendo Wii a week ago and now I'm playing Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Rayman: Raving Rabbids whenever I can. I also often stay at the office after work hours to play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

I like the controls on the Wii... hand movement actually makes a difference in games where you have to do combat.

I like the linearity in PC games: do that, pick up that, go there, kill that one etc, e.g. Half Life, Doom 3, Call of Duty series, Mafia, Max Payne etc.
"Non-linear" games are, where you can free roam through the game world and you don't have from beginning to end fixed missions to accomplish, e.g. Grand Theft Auto, STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, the whole RPG genre, etc. I dislike these kinds of games, but GTA Vice City was pretty okay I must say.

I'm a bit of a old-school gamer, so I play with a "Rambo style". That means, e.g. in shooter games, I don't use stealth or silenced weapons, but instead I rush right into the hornet's nest with the strongest gun in the inventory, lock and loaded: and it works most the time without being suicidal.

When playing, I'm trying to "save ammo for the final boss", but the fun begins when, at the game's ending, you'll lose all your weapons.

Ah, the good old days of Return to Castle Wolfenstein back in 2003...
