You know your a geek when.....
I actually think that the "counting from zero" statement is the most correct. I don't consider my self a geek as such, but i know that i count fron zero; it just makes sence to me;
Oh, and the "ending a sentence with a semicolon;" is also pretty neat, allthough I don't think i've done it before;

I love going on vacation and breaking from my computer.
It's a great break, plus I can code 20 days of new ideas when I get back.

You must have some memory to be able to do that. I don't even remember ideas I get a night before... Sometimes I write them down on my mobile, with task reminders, but I only end up ignoring the reminders and randomly deleting them to free up space. Ah, the need for space.piranha wrote:I love going on vacation and breaking from my computer.

How does one take a vacation anyway?
Sums me up (I think (although I don't consider myself a geek)).MessiahAndrw wrote: ...you nest English statements (like this) and (like this too).

Hmm...I'm not considered a geek by my friends, espcially my girlfriend (maybe cause she programs too?)...
I went to Europe for 2 1/2 weeks to visit relatives.
I'm going on a backpacking trip this summer for 8 days.

I believe you can refer to your self as a geek without it actually being true.Brynet-Inc wrote:Geek is no longer derogatory these days, I'm proud enough to call myself one..
This topic is pointless.. You know you're a geek when you refer to yourself as one.

Good point. IMO you are a geek when other people start calling you that.Zacariaz wrote:I believe you can refer to your self as a geek without it actually being true.Brynet-Inc wrote:Geek is no longer derogatory these days, I'm proud enough to call myself one..

Same holds for hackers (in its original meaning).

Some "geeks" are highly antisocial, so requiring someone to call you a geek before you are one is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm a geek, I like science fiction/fact, I like computers.. electronics.... and very little else.
Nobody is stating that in order to be a "pureblod" geek (well actually they are, but I don't believe thay actually mean it that way), you have to be called so by another person. No, you have to be view that way by another person. Should you never meet another person, which I think is very unlikely, it doesn't really matter, it's all about how another person would view you if that was ever to happen. Also remember it has to be a generel view. Me thinking that you are a geek is not enough, it has to be a generel oppinion.Brynet-Inc wrote:I don't agreeCombuster wrote:Good point. In short, you do not deside yourself, whether you're a geek or not, but most "geeks" I think would be intelligent and selfobservant enough to know.
Are you a geek because you like science fiction? I, for one, am crazy about star trek, babylon 5, stargate atlantis, futurama, you name it, and I must have watched each series a million times, but that doesn't make me a geek, just an obsesive person with too much time on my hand. If, on the other hand, I went to a lot of star trek congresses, viewed all the extra material, knew all the actors real names, birthday, etc. then I would truly be a geek.
Like comicbook guy in the simpsons (no I cannot remember his name, nor the name of the voice) says, "Worst movie ever! I'm only gonna watch it 3 more times. Today."
Anyway, you know you're a geek when you have this much to say about such a meaningless topic.
