Lair of the Troll. NO FEEDING

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Well, JamesM's tutorial is a good idea of what I mean about programming. IMO he is a real programmer. However, I disagree with all the lazy people on this forum that find so-called "errors" in his code, even though they eventually prove themselves wrong and make a lot of useless fuss about it in the process. Ready4Dis, please stop making those hidden rude remarks to my persona. I know that you expect me to say something stupid that defines a "real" programmer so that you can later make fun about it, so stop pushing the discussion when you know that I already intended to drop it.
I don't really know what a real programmer is, but I do know that one asking stupid questions isn't one!

This certainly sounds like someone who knows they've lost but refuses to come out on bottom. Nobody is making fun of anything, no one needs to. You're doing that to yourself just fine without our help. The only way anyone ever learns is by failing and then asking questions. Lukem succeeded through failure, you succeeded in failure. Ad hominem attacks against anyone who dares face you in an entire forum are no way to regain your foothold. If you want to retain some credibility, stop now. If you have such a low opinion of all of us, stop now, we don't deserve your time.

Whats your problem man?

[/rant]

i dont mean to cause a flame war here (although it seems to be raging), hence why i request this be locked. but please... ARGH

They weren't hidden rude remarks, I seriuosly wanted to know what you considered a real programmer since you said you haven't met any on this board (which begs the question, if you think this board is useless, why do you visit). Also, if everyone knew everything and never needed to come somewhere for help, these boards would not exist. There are a lot of people in a lot of different situations (he's 15, maybe not a polished/established programmer. I don't mind helping people out on here, and I don't tend to spoon feed the answer either. I will offer suggestions, explanations on theory, and even occassionally give some source code or read through some source code. If someone is constantly coming on the board asking for code or for me to troubleshoot their code, I will not do it, and suggest they read more, or try some other programming before OS dev. I try not to talk down on people, because everyone was a beginner at one point, and I realize this. If you are going to tell people they aren't real programmers, you better have the skills to back it up, because you will get called out on it. I know this isn't exactly how you wanted it to come out, and your point was mostly that he needs to find his own answers and do his own debugging, but you definetely missed the mark with your responses, and if you said it a bit nicer people would not have come down on you the way they did. I will consider it dropped until the next time you come up with some smart remarks towards people.

Funny, that's exactly what I think of you.

Out of all the weird situations my people skills have ever gotten me into, this is not the worst. Why is it such a big deal? :-s

I do agree I'm a prick, and I do agree I'm not a real programmer, but at least I know my way around my own problems.

I thought this forum would be more about design-related questions, not about compiler-specific and pin-pointed code implementation issues.

Or maybe we should just rename this one to "HELP FOR NOOBS".
Oh, and whoever set the topic title (I assume it was lukem95) has a lot more issues than me.

I doubt that. The title is stored in the first post of a thread - yours. You are therefore accusing him that he modified your post, which is impossible.

Yeah well, you changed it to "lair of the troll" when you split the thread ;)

Actually, I just kept my promise:

Topic title: "Lair of the troll". Oh dear, I'll better get the shotgun ready. Trolls outside the Scandinavia are dangerous you know, they're rabid...

You are starter of this thread or mods splitted it. Lukem95 is not a admin, so he couldn't edit the thread title. Who's the noob now?

You sure do...shouting to other people is your way around your problems?

Thread lock requested...

Agreed. I wouldn't want to pay for zaleschiemilgabriel's therapy.

Zoo's closed. Go home.
