All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.
according to the user list out of 4484 registered user 2376 have never ever posted.
Tha is approx 53% of all registered members.
Is it not a big drain on this forums resources to maintain accounts that are never being used?
Ok we should keep the accounts that have been loged onto and the ones that are recently created, but some should be deleted, It shouldn't be to hard to derive an algorithm to do so.
I would also be interested to know how many of the accounts how have only ever posted once are bots. (Maybe we should have a picture verification thing , though I don't know if this would cause a problem bandwith wise and if they are actually efective...)

Don't forget that you also need an account do download attachments. There are quite a few people that just lurk around without posting.

The other thing you get if you register is the ability to take your "unread posts" search across multiple computers. I was certainly registered for a long time before posting and don't think we should discourage lurkers.
Well there should also be a condition that there account isn't deleted if they have logged on not only never posted, so we don't destroy lurker's accounts

Write a detailed proposal and send it on in to chase... Please make sure lurkers aren't harmed.
Twitter: @canadianbryan. Award by smcerm, I stole it. Original was larger.
I wonder, what good is it to prune the user database when it only constitutes to a very insignificant portion of the database.
Assuming that half the "empty" accounts are truly unused, and each account takes 1K of data, there'd be 1MB of wasted space. 1MB of storage costs about 0.04 (euro)cents, or space for some 500 more posts. Do you really think chase (or any admin with some senses) is going to be bothered by that?
