should we create an OS development magazine?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

well that's what happens in 15 minutes and being overtired. :D

and having no ideas at all for the layout except 'matrix-styled' lol.

dark-themed, light-themed, pastels, modern, compact, all/none multimedia, etc...

sorry, but html and php are not my languages of choice for the most modern flashy designs.

Maybe try an earthy theme, with darker colors. Stay away from pastels. (Like light light blue.) Also, don't use any black. (Substitute black with a charcoal color.)

I like the GNOME Journal's site. It's easy on the eyes, and very simple.

I don't think anyone was asking for "flashy designs" or bright blue "fisher price" style "buttons".

Yes, I'm talking to you as well os.hacker64..

Thank you brynet for being extremely unhelpful.

maybe next time when you knock something, come up with a solution.

I like that gnome sites style as well, so I shall change directions.

The name comes in my mind a little after you post the poll.
I didn't saw it.

Does anyone think that we should do something a bit more like The GNOME Journal? They only have a few articles per issue, keep everything very simple, and don't compile everything into a PDF, but instead keep simple articles on the front page.

It's kind of a low stress environment. Maybe we can do a 'mix' between the two? (ie. our-PDF-style-issue-release-NOW! vs. TGJ's-release-whenever-we-have-something-good.)

Somewhere inbetween would be good. less stress on everyone.

the only problem with the gnome-styled way is that they are more like a blog publisher, not really a e-zine.

Ok, so for now instead of posting pictures I just took a few minutes and put up the good ol' IIS.

fakeworld.homeftp.org/magazine/
is the link to the test site.
I changed the interface alot btw.

I decided I'm going to use ASP.NET instead of php as I can interface with a database and set things up in a quarter of the time then if I was using PHP. no I'm not flaming it, im just better at C#.NET.

That's quite nice. :)

My only complaint is that it doesn't shrink well. It doesn't much matter, but I can see it being an issue for people who don't generally use their browsers in full screen.

ok, I'll check that out.

I'll probably find a nice static size to go with instead of percentages.
btw, my screen res is 1280x1024, so I kinda forget that the normal res is below that lol.

I actually just put it there as a 'placeholder' but i'm pretty sure that is going to be the name anyway, once the poll is over.

btw, asp master-pages are a godsend. =)

if the editor has any compiled articles or tutorials that would like to be put up in the time being, send away.

The page you see, is a template I've made, so putting in actual content is possible now.

I'll start working on a upload page so that I can automate the process for the editors when putting up new articles.

[edit] also, if anyone would like to write up a FAQ's page and a small 'news' update regarding the opening of the site (even though its not yet), please feel free to. [/edit]
