Completed Survey

Post by crazygray1 »

Hi, I'm working on a survey on peoples' uses of email. Please take a few moments to fill out this survey.

Do you forward jokes?

Do you forward chain-mail?

Where do you check your email?(Work,Home,School,)

When do you spend most of your time reading email?

How many accounts do you have?

How many emails do you generally send in a week?

Do you think there are better communications technologies than email?

What is the average length of your emails

How often do you check your email?

How many emails do you get per week on average?

Do you keep all of your emails?

Do you have a personal signature for your emails?

Thank you!

crazygray1 wrote: How many accounts do you have?
I have a personal one(I use this one to send email to friends, family and trusted people), and a gmail public one(I use this one for anything or anybody that could send me spam). I set up gmail so that I don't get spam in my local inbox.
crazygray1 wrote: How many emails do you generally send in a week?
10 emails
crazygray1 wrote: Do you think there are better communications technologies than email?
nothing will ever replace face to face communication (simple because it's more personal that phone or email).
crazygray1 wrote: What is the average length of your emails
around 50 words.
crazygray1 wrote: How often do you check your email?
This is hard because I don't acturaly check the email as such,. I get thunderbird to notified me of new email.
crazygray1 wrote: How many emails do you get per week on average?
Around 10 emails, + 1 or 2 spam emails that gmail doesn't catch.
crazygray1 wrote: Do you keep all of your emails?
Yes

nope

I would recommend:

http://surveymonkey.com/

it lets you create a free survey with up to 10 questions ( make multiple accounts for more then 10 ), and then keeps track of all the answers and gives you graphs and stuff.

I used it for my technical class and it makes great source of info and you can take screenshots of the graphs and drop them right into your report.

Do you forward jokes?

No.

Do you forward chain-mail?

No.

Where do you check your email?(Work,Home,School,)

Home. (Assuming this is meant to mean "private email".)

When do you spend most of your time reading email?

In the morning, before going to work. (Assuming this is meant to mean "private email".)

How many accounts do you have?

One. (A couple of forwarders, though, from SourceForge and from various domain administrative addresses.)

How many emails do you generally send in a week?

5-10 (Assuming this is meant to mean "private email".)

Do you think there are better communications technologies than email?

Depending on purpose. Among the asynchronous protocols (snailmail, voicebox, ...), I consider email to be the best.

What is the average length of your emails

One or two paragraphs.

How often do you check your email?

Daily.

How many emails do you get per week on average?

10-15 that are actually meant for me, plus ~300 spam.

Do you keep all of your emails?

No.

Do you have a personal signature for your emails?

Yes, if you consider my name and my mail address a "signature".

Do you forward jokes?

No.

Do you forward chain-mail?

No.

Where do you check your email?(Work,Home,School,)

Work and Home

When do you spend most of your time reading email?

Weekends at home.

How many accounts do you have?

3 - work, home and one that I use for signing up to web sites like ebay (before I trust that they aren't going to distribute my e-mail address all over the place).

How many emails do you generally send in a week?

Up to 10.

Do you think there are better communications technologies than email?

Not for what e-mail is designed for, no. For group communication and sharing thoughts, wiki and forum styles can be better though.

What is the average length of your emails

Not long - 2 paragraphs of a couple of sentences each.

How often do you check your email?

My e-mail client is on whenever my computer is on - every day, really.

How many emails do you get per week on average?

About 10.

Do you keep all of your emails?

Yes - although I don't know why - just never got round to purging or setting up expiry rules, I guess.

Do you have a personal signature for your emails?

No.

Thank you!

Do you forward jokes?

Through e-mail no, sometimes through icq but very rarely.

Do you forward chain-mail?

Never, and if it's a hoax (new virus has been released etc), logic tells me to scold the chosen one (pardon me ), give him link to hoax.cz and make a screenshot (if it's a "new ICQ virus").

Where do you check your email?(Work,Home,School,)

Mostly home and sometimes school.

When do you spend most of your time reading email?

16:00. :P

How many accounts do you have?

I do not know exactly, maybe over 10 but the most used are only two. The others are from free web hosting etc.

How many emails do you generally send in a week?

1-3

Do you think there are better communications technologies than email?

Face to face communication :)

What is the average length of your emails

10-150 words.

How often do you check your email?

Daily

How many emails do you get per week on average?

4-10 per week. I had my primary email address from 2001 when we didn't have active internet connection and I didn't knew what are spambots. So daily, every 20 minutes (!) I'll become a "sensanotiall revolution in medicine"-like emails (with these grammatical errors) or just weird advertising of "OEM software". All these emails are automatically forwarded to spam trash thing, only two or three spam email crawls once a month.

Do you keep all of your emails?

No.

Do you have a personal signature for your emails?

No
