motherboard max out freq.

Post by suthers »

I was thinking back just now and i thought that over time i've had quite a few overclocking boards and all of them had one anoying problem.
All of them can reach a certain freq. in one go (i.e. right now ive got an MSI 650i SLI platinum and I can go in on go to 1563MHz FSB).
after that freq. i have to go up in no more than 5MHz increments or the whole thing dies and i cant go up more than one voltage setting in a go, etc..
How come this happens all my motherboards that ive had up to now have the same problem and its really annoying having to 5MHz by 5MHz when you now your proc is capable of way more.
Does anybody now what causes this? (no i'm not expecting to fix it im just interested)

Apparently he's annoyed that the BIOS of his motherboards don't allow him to set the FSB arbitrarily, but test each new setting first before adding another 5 MHz.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.
