The GPL covers the forum software, not content... in fact I don't think they can copyright the contents of your SQL database either.

But I do agree it's a viral licence..

When you signup. You agree to a small set of rules...those basically let the forum owners do whatever they want while allowing them to ignore the people who actually made the content...GPL style...

So by using GCC anything we compile is automatically under the GPL too? Same with GPL'ed text editors, design program, etc.
Fortunately, I don't think the GPL is that viral.
