Google Earth (guess the city)

Post by AndrewAPrice »

I don't know how many of you don't know about Google Earth - it's basically a 3D front end for Google Maps. Anyway, I haven't played with it for around 2 years, so I downloaded the latest copy and some of the changes I were surprised to see were:
- More cities support 3D buildings. Most cities aren't complete and only have a few buildings (I think most buildings would be user-generated content).
- Buildings are textured!
- A lot more of the earth is covered by higher-resolution images.
- Now comes a built in flight simulator (activated by pressing CTRL+ALT+A).

I've taken a screenshot of a city from within the flight simulator. See if you can guess which city it is! It'll be hard for most of you. I know at least two people on this forum will get it straight away.

If my guess is correct, I am one of the two, and the picture sucks royally. ;)

Sorry, although the city's you mentioned skyline does look surprisingly similar.

I'll give this another day before I give out the answer :)

Scrap my previous answer, it's definitely Brisbane (Australia).

It's definitely Brisbane. You're looking North-east. Story Bridge is in the background.

It wasn't easy though, I'm so used to seeing it from the south (rarely see it from the north).

For the benefit of the others, my guess was on Frankfurt / Main, Germany.

Ha, I recognised that the second I saw it - that white building (with the curvy balconies at the top) is really distinctive
