An OS called Workstation?

An OS called Workstation?

Post by MCC »

Do you think calling an operating system "Workstation" would cause issues? I mean we have NT Workstation for an OS, application wise there is VMWare Workstation for example. They don't seem to have problems using the word with copyright issues.

Unless off course there is already an OS called "Workstation"

Thank you

I would say that word can not be copyright'ed/trademark'ed/patent'ed since it has a specific meaning in the context of computers. See wikipedia: Workstation.

If you have a company name, for example Message, you could call it, Message Workstation. But calling it Workstation alone is a bit tricky legaly. The way I think you can trademark it would be by making a logo with Workstation in it, but in that case I recommend you do it in black and white, even if the true logo is in colors.

You might legally be able to call it "Werkstation", although you'll inadvertently be endorsing illiteracy 8)
