Does job change things?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Does job change things?

Post by dc0d32 »

Hi,

Today was the first day of my first ever full time job, and something tells me that this hobby OSDeving, Compiler construction, Game development that i used to devote a lot of time to, is gone. I know it sounds childish, but since most of us here are employed somewhere and they still pursue the hobby, i'm sure this must have crossed someone's mind before me. Is that normal, i mean how does the job affect the hobby projects (i know u'd probably say it all depends on me n my attitude). College is different thing, but job is alltogether a different ballgame.

Did it cross your minds too? Or is it that I am too much sensitive/dumb.

[forgive me if i sound a little confused, since i really am.]

My job was never enough to completely kill my hobby. My job plus my personal life (once I got a life) finished it off almost for good. :P

If your job takes so many hours out of your day that you can't have a life, get another job. If your job is so much fun that you no longer feel the need to have a programming-related hobby, then stop worrying about it. :)
Top three reasons why my OS project died:
  1. Too much overtime at work
  2. Got married
  3. My brain got stuck in an infinite loop while trying to design the memory manager
Don't let this happen to you!

Or get a job at a software development company that allows time for individual projects. Unfortunately, you have to sign a contract which gives them exclusive rights to anything you develop during office hours.

HAHA (I got to laugh at someone.)

It is just twiddling away right now. Like Colonel Kernel said once I actually get a personal life this will disappear as a whole new set of responsibilities will demolish it. Wierd, huh? I think people reference this strange and confusing point in life by saying, "Life is not fair."

Life cares s_h_i_t about fairness.

Life happens.

Deal with it.

Besides I'm doing OS Deving, Studying AND Working and I'm en liaison flambe, so, there's no point in whining about life is not fair, at least not for me.
