We are a small software development organization. I am the boss of it. I am plaining to geather the people who are interested in development of OS. This will be an opensource clone of windows + linux(Close to ReactOS[www.reactos.com]).

My plan is to develop a community which will be responsible for development of that operating system. I and some of our friends are already working on this project, which is in the very begining.

You have asked a very relative question and infact i would have given an explaination erlier, which i forgot. Fact is that this project will be an open source project, that means it will be 100% free for end user. That is the reason we are looking for contributers. Contributers will not be paid initially untill we don't recieve any sponsorships or donations. But, we shall be helding awards such things for developed parts of OS, to make QUALITY OF WORK 100% +.

BUT againg, infact there will no pay/salery stuff infact.

And another thing, where do you think you're going to get the Windows API'S ? ::)

Thanks for your interest. I divide your reply in 3 parts as follows:

1- Will it be like Lindows:
No it will not be like Lindows, but will be something better than Lindows. Reason is, Lindows is RedHat Linux boud with Wine. But it will be infact a true clone of MS WindowsXP or Longhorn with added features that it will be a Linux too, user if user typed c:\ e.g. os will recognize it and perform task and if he types cd /, that will also be recognized. Actually we are thinking off to make something like client-server thing for kernel shell. Our command prompt will be a client wichi will communicate a backfground service which will be the kernal infact.

2- Will you pay: No we shall not pay unless we dont have donations and sponsors. We shall establish a system which will show the status of any donation and sponsor, so that each person in team will be able to claim his share in near future.

3- From Where you will have Windows API's: Most of these API's we shall develop, we shall have section and people divided in sections who will be dedicated for this.

- questions about payment were inevitable as soon as you sound like a 'recruiter' ::)

- i guess what was meant with the windows API was "how are you going to know what is required to support windows programs" rather than "how are you going to get code that provides support for windows programs".

- i haven't studied the licenses details but i wouldn't be surpirsed if the EULA prevented you from looking at the symbol names in the DLL and then publish them as open-source document ... Does someone who has tried Win-based development knows how 'free' the win API is ?

Lindows is based on debian linux.
And, intergrating the shell might be a bad idea.
A shell is a program, not a special program, like DOS does.

To create an OS, you should plan first! ( I think )

yes offcourse, we are in plaining stage, but we are trying to look/gather people arround us to start extensive development.

ReactOS is a opensource OS, which is a smal clone of windows 95. They have few dll's from roinal ones that microsoft delivers. But i am not personalyy interested into using those from MS, as it will be a big problem once we shall be bigger. Also there are software, emulaters which tracks memory and tell which API generated what call and what happened in memory etc.

Since many programs are active, and the programs are doing a lot, than you could imagine, it would be difficult to filter somethings.

That's why it has NTOSKRNL.EXE
(Or is it just a renaming of the kernel ? ::) )

Yes you are right that it has NTOSKRNL.EXE, but infact it is not a tru NT clone yet, it is very close to WIN95 but more stable.

And it loads like Windows NT, even the starting screen.
And I know that, because I tested it on Bochs ;D
