windows development`
what software brands, like compiler, linker, operating system environment, did microsoft use to write windows?
Re:windows development`
Depends which version. As far as I know, they have used their own. For instance, Windows 2000 was written using Visual C++ 5.

Re:windows development`
there were rumours telling that Win95 was developped on unix machines ...
Re:windows development`
Interesting! Well, I do my NES and GBA, and even DOS development on Windows, so... The day I got my first Windows IDE for writing DOS code, I never looked back. Maybe they felt the same way about a UNIX XWindows IDE vs. a Windows 3.1 one ? heh.Pype.Clicker wrote: there were rumours telling that Win95 was developped on unix machines ...
I feel sorry for the folks who used to have to develop OSes on crappy non-IDEs back in the late 70s/early 80s. I can only imagine what it was like for those people at Xerox PARC developing their GUI back in the 70s. That must have been T-E-D-I-O-U-S!
