nvidia documentation

Hi. Out of curiousity, has anyone been able to find documentation that covers the nvidia range of video cards. I am only concerned about basic 2d functions. The information that I need to write an nvidia driver seems to be very hard to come by.

XFree86 has a working NVidia driver (no 3d though) so if you're not afraid of source, then that might be one place to look.
