stars in profile, and new OS?

Ok, it more forum related then OS-Dev. But my curious mind wants to known ;D

I've seen that every user here has 1 or more star(s). What do they mean? and how are they awarded.

Ok, for the dev part, I'm currently working on a new OS called 'AncientOS'. This OS is at this point just for learning purposes, but who knows where the future may lead. It'll be written in asm, c and c++. At this moment i'm making a webpage and tell you when it's finished.

I hope that i can bother you with a lot of questions .
