laptop programming

ive been trying to get a machien to program on,(i have a bunch, each with its own major error, this one has no working floppy), and my cousins letting me borrow his laptop. is there anythign i have to do different? i want this OS to be run on PCs, but im gonna write and test it on a laptop.

the only differamce i can think of would be hardware drivers, if the laptop is on a pentium.
