Complete Newbie to OSDEV

Hello everyone! I'm very interested in programming my own operating system, but I'm not sure what to download to begin. I'm willing to start anywhere. I've already read the FAQ with much of the entirety and I'm still confused with these strange abbreviations and the such. Maybe I can get someone to guide me in the right direction as to where to begin.

In addition to this board you may want to read the newsgroup alt.os.development. Some very nice people there, and always ver interessting.

I must be stupid or something, but i've seen this "alt.os.development" thing, and heard good vibes, but I CAN'T GET TO IT!!! Is it http://alt.os.development, what? ???

alt.os.development is a usenet newsgroup

(may work).

you need a news reader like winagent lite, etc.
