Has anybody had much experience with these? Are they effective?
As far as I can gather.. it's a bunch of documents on something that can be edited by anybody. So it can be a constantly updated document. Might be useful for some topics on this board.

It seems a bit proprietary to me.
I made a shell-script in UNIX class that did the same thing (It's called CHALK and it sucks), but it was based on the user having the executable that simply wrote or read from a file. The bonus of my shiznit was that only the creator of a CHALKBOARD could delete it, while anyone could write to it. Something like that.
The only real problem with Wiki's is that message boards like this, or any kind of freely downloadable just copy and paste it in you lazy bastard guestbook could do just about as good a job without having to learn a bunch of special rules.

Well the reason why wiki's would be good is because the content would be organised into a proper document. and people would know which areas need working on too.
