Write OS, please help

hello,
I wanna write some simple os, completely in assembly. To start I think I'm going to make real mode. It must have a command line and can execute some files (made in C or ASM). So me asking, what do I need? I use Linux (Fedora Core 2) to develop, have the NASM assembler. What file format would you advice? And so on and on and on..., Any advice?
