How Lindows works. Does it run both win and lin applications directly on machine or it emulates any one of them or both.

Lindows is based on a Linux kernel, and I believe it cannot run Windows programs, from the Lindows FAQ :

Is Linspire designed to run software written for Microsoft® Windows?

No.  Linspire is designed to run stable, secure and affordable Linux software.  Fortunately, there are thousands of great Linux software programs available to perform most any desktop computer task, and the amount and quality of the software is advancing every day.

I remember looking at the Lindows project a while ago (before it's major release), and reading how they intended to run both Windows and Linux applications seamlessly (WINE?). I thought that was cool, and didn't think too much of it.

Then, I read on Slashdot that someone noticed that claim had silently disappeared from their homepage. No press statement had been released about it. They just quietly changed their goal. I guess it was just too ambitious. You might be able to dig up an old version of their homepage on web.archive.org
