can't anybody tell me where to get documents about the local apic?

The 'local apic' is apart of the cpu.
Look at the cpu manuals for intel, notably the Intel IA-32 Architecture Manual 3.

Or get the book...FREEeE....from them....yup I actually ordered those 3 manuals and got them free =)

so did i, two copies infact, along with the usb specifications.
just a matter of finding the literature centre (which i dont think intel makes too easy and it seems to be gone now after looking :().

I've also got the free printed versions of the amd64 manuals, all five of them.

They've actually proved more useful than the a book called "The Indispensible PC Hardware book" that i bought for £20 off amazon marketplace. RRP is £40 brand new off amazon too :S and one third of the book documents the processor in a waffly manor that doesn't help anyone, the other two thirds is hardware that can be found on sites found in the development links and using google.
