GRUB curious thing

Hello, anyone is familiar with GRUB? When I enter a command or event a empty line at GRUB command line mode, my computer will chirp, it seems from motherboard. it is not the continuous buzz of the cool fan. It is a short chirp in the company of the ENTER key, I am sure that. What does GRUB do as a command entered?

Well, one would assume that the "chirp" you hear is the system bell, so I would check that the command you entered is correct.
I am not psychic, so I cannot diagnose your problem without more information: What version of GrUB are you using? What command are you typing? Is this from the full grub prompt, or from the failsafe prompt, or is in the `grub` linux command?

Thank you, but I am sure it is not the system speaker. No matter what command I entered it chirps, even enter an empty line. the version is 0.93. When it goes to the BOOT SYSTEM select menu, press "c" can enter this command line mode.

i bet knowing your mobo would be more helpful here, this is most likely a mobo/bios issue. im not aware enough of the hardware out there to tell you anything past what my mobo dose but i bet that's what's making the chirp.

Where does sound come from? one is the noise of the cool fan; and fixdisk motor;and the system speaker. Any more? I am sure that is not all of these. The sound I heard is very slight, but very clear. Can here attach a piece of sound? Imay record it and paste it here.

You're more likely to know where the sound is coming from.
Put your ear to the case and try to find where it comes from (you could even take the side off the case to make it easier to isolate)

Indeed, I had been doing last night as you said, taking off the side plate. I listened it with a pipe like a doctor diagnoses his patient. But I did not found.

Is this the sound of floppy/Hard Disk motor starting to spin?

The sound is not from the speaker,I'm sure of that. The sound is ONLY in company with the ENTER key. It does not sound when I hit any other keys, just chirps after the ENTER which means a command.
I doubt that GRUB does something hardware operation, and that causes some fault IC-Chips on the motherboard to chirp.

Besides, if i type the command VBEPROBE, It will chirp a longer period, as if it chips for every output lines(totally about 20 lines). I tried some graphics mode, it can show different patterns on the screen(without chirping when the patterns act).

Oh, this is getting complicated. The only suggestion I can give is 'ignore it'. Is this sound causing any kind of problem other than "Chirp" irritation?

The OP mentioned that they're using GRUB 0.93. That's pretty old and known to be buggy, it's my suggestion the OP tries GRUB 0.97 as that's the latest and greatest (and most widely used) version of GRUB Legacy. See if that helps with this supposed beeping problem.

The machine is installed with windows xp and RedHat 9.0 and the GRUB is also installed together with it. At present, it can not start up. I do think there must be hardware fault somewhere. I hope I can discover it by hardware chip scanning(operating each part one by one). Thus, I heard this chirp. I wonder if it is the point, and what part it is exactly. For now, I could not boot up my machine, and could only work in this simple mode.

This can be CRTC and your monitor. Easy check - unplug the monitor and press Enter.
The monitor is refreshed at 75Hz from graphics card? can it has relationship with the key?
